Day 91: T Minus 10

Less than 10 to go. As before, the #100Days process has me wondering what’s next. 100 days of anything could be a major step in my life – if I was passionate about it. 100 Days of Reading…. 100 Days of Fitness… 100 Days of Family….

Today I:

  • picked up the District Eagle recognition certificates from DAC (the dinner was on our Troop meeting night);
  • offered my computer services to a Scouter in need;
  • listened to a couple Scouting podcasts;
  • responded to a question about Shelter Box involvement in Southern US from a Scouter;
  • added a new First Aid reference to my electronic library (if you’re interested in this as a single PDF DM or email me);
So as we get closer to the end of 100 Days of Scouting what’s your biggest take-away so far?

  • Started the day with the latest and greatest from Scout Nation;
  • Registered Troop for District Camporee;
  • Completed paperwork for summer camp registration;
  • Did some Troopmaster data entry;
  • Worked with Cubmaster to track down BSA ID#’s for Scouts who transferred in from the Pack;
  • Wished a Happy Birthday to one of my favorite PTC Media Scoutmasters!

Day 80: Tauwinipen

• Squared away all the registration paperwork needed (by Saturday) for summer camp and now have a binder of leader materials;
• Mailed out a Shelterbox Scout patch;
• Thanks to another Scouter got help with my geocaching app conundrum – turns out the feature is there just deviously hidden;
• Discovered 2 new Scouting iPhone apps:
Helleniechsin, an English to Lenape dictionary (thx Scouting News)
Instacast, an over the air podcast manager and downloader. Works great for keeping up on Scouting podcasts.looking forward to a new SCOUTNATION tomorrow.

Finished the Scouting day with a troop meeting. Despite only 3 1/2 Scouts showing up (one came at the very end just to see what was missed)((sports commitment)) had a good troop meeting
– finalized roster for summer camp
– Scouts worked on menu for next campout
– New PL and APL planned out skill instruction and patrol activities for next meeting; they’re starting to grasp the boy-led aspect and that it’s their troop :)

Day 58: Planning

☑ Listened to the SMM Podcast “The 50 Miler with Ken Hall.” Jerry puts out a lot of informative shows but this is one of those special ones that goes in the do not delete category. A really good primer on trek planning.

☑ Discussed with PL (son) his plans for Patrol activities for tomorrow’s meeting;

☑ Graciously received this morning the updated District Merit Badge counselor list. One segment of the meeting tomorrow will be an intro to merit badges (blue cards, books we have…) and I can finally get counselor info to a few who’ve already requested.

☑ Kept refreshing the Weather Channel app until rain was no longer in the forecast for any part of this weekend’s camping.

☑ Saved coordinates for a handful of geocaches local to where we’ll be camping; it looks like there’s a fair amount of new caches in the area since the last time we camped there.

 BTW – iPhone app recommendation Oh, Ranger! ParkFinder™ Great for detailed info about all the National and State parks and offers many ways to search. Maps appear to be whatever was provided by the individual park so your mileage there may vary.

☑ Worked on a series of Shelter Box meeting activities the Troop can work utilize;

☑ At “58″ had the thought Oh no, that’s closer to the end then to the beginning.

Day 46: Pack, Troop, Council, Zombies

Today’s Scouting:

✪ Fielded an inquiry for the Pack from a mom who wants to transfer to our Pack; haven’t heard back yet on what drew her to our Pack, always something I like to find out in a transfer situation.

✪ Emailed the Troop parents/leaders about RSVP’ing for April campout;

✪ Did some “evaluation” work comparing different options our council is looking at for a website revamp. It my first official involvement outside our unit. Tuesday I’ll be attending the District Web Committee meeting.

✪ Shared my commute home with Bryan and Shawn (SCOUT NATION); getting a lot of good info!

✪ Looked at the Family Life merit badge a number of times – can’t help it but I see zombies (bottom triangle). What can I say, it’s been a long week.

✪ No official Scouting plans for the weekend, we’ll see if that holds true.
