Today I was glad to see that Scouting Magazine announced that production of the Geocaching merit badge pamphlet (and patch) will begin soon and hopefully we’ll see them available by the end of the year. A near final draft of the requirements has been available for months but this is the first we’ve seen as far as what the patch will look like.
Tonight I finally sat down with the GPS unit that was donated to our Troop to figure it all out. Compared to what I’ve been using (iPhone) it was anything but intuitive but I managed to school myself on the basics of setting waypoints and navigation.
Likely I’ll bring it to the meeting Thursday and see if there’s interest in starting on the Geocaching merit badge.
My son and I have been geocaching for a few years now and we’ve really gotten to love it. It’s a great combination of outdoors, technology and mystery.
