Today I:
* Reached out to a family who stopped at Pack meeting (son is 11) to invite them to next Troop meeting
* Heard some bad new that one of the Pack’s Den leaders may not be continuing on. It’s disappointing but I understand the priorities. Hopefully we’ll get him and his son back in the program in the near future.
* I looked into a trip journal application that I’m hoping to use to track some of our Scouting adventures. 31 days til next (first with Troop) campout. Personally I’d say it couldn’t come soon enough. I wonder how many recruits can we get by then?

100 Days of Scouting: Day 30
100 Days of Scouting: Day 29
Today I:
* Wanted to be proactive about a tour permit but apparently I wanted to work faster than my Troop application could be processed
* Forwarded necessary paperwork to Pack for a correction on Charter
* Checked on my profile (yes it’s still there) on MyScouting. Updated a few details. I had good hopes for that portal/platform. It looks like National is seeing that it’s easier to use Facebook than to build out their own. I do agree with not reinventing the wheel I just don’t agree with Facebook. Or maybe it doesn’t agree with me.
* Asked a Scouter wiser than I for suggestions on ‘How to foster the Patrol method when you have a group that’s not large enough to be a Patrol?’ Besides recruiting, which is definitely in the works, how would you deal with a group of 2-3 Scouts and try to make the Patrol model successful? Share your ideas in the comments.
100 Days of Scouting: Day 28
…And on the 28th day, the Scoutmaster rested.
Not much Scouting going on today. Planned to join in on the live show of “An Hour a Week” but the show was cancelled this week.
100 Days of Scouting: Day 27
March 27: My Scouting needs more O-U-T
* Didn’t have nearly as much fun as all my twitter friends out camping this weekend (the furthest I got outside today was picking up a pizza)
* Did a little more fine tuning on the Troop website
* Did some geek-work so that I can get Troop email on phone and post calendar updated and photos
* Checked in via my wife on a friends son who was joining the Pack when I left. He’s one of those perfect candidates for Scouting. So far it looks to be going well for him.
100 Days of Scouting: Day 26
March 26:
Version 1 of the Troop website is complete. Today I purchased the web domain for the Troop website and transferred all the “development” to the new address: www.njtroop83.org.
There’s some cosmetic work I want to do still but everything is functional.
Now that I have the website up I can start working on recruiting flyers.
I also heard from the new Cubmaster who is “not sure what’s going on but we seem to be adding new Scouts at every meeting.” One of those who showed up to their meeting last night was 11. I’ll be making a call to the family this weekend. I’d like to get them involved with our Troop as soon as possible.
Based on what we’ve been able to do with the Pack numbers I’ve got good confidence for the Troops future. This year is is going to be tricky still as far as getting a patrol out of the new Scouts.
